National SHRM - Junior Achievement Collaborate to Promote Work Readiness

FCSHRM is supporting the National SHRM- Junior Achievement Collaboration to promote work readiness in high schools across the country. The agreement will use the strengths and expertise of both organizations to engage human resource professionals, educators and Junior Achievement associates in initiatives that better prepare young people to be successful adults in the ever-evolving world of work.

Finance Park Virtual is Junior Achievement’s common core-aligned capstone program for middle grades students that provides a foundation for making intelligent, lifelong personal financial decisions. Volunteers would visit a 7th or 8th grade classroom that is implementing JA Finance Park Virtual and speak to the students about the importance of financial literacy.  Topics that can be glossed over are income, taxes, credit vs debit, savings, etc.  The JA representative would work with the individual volunteer on content and provide what the students will be specifically learning during the unit to help orient the direction of the discussion.  Volunteers can also assist during the online simulation that the students go through and guide students as they make their budgeting choices.
